DNA profiling for paternity testing from non-standard samples

For DNA profiling, the DNA is typically extracted from peripheral blood or a buccal swab. However, DNA analysis for this purpose may also be performed using other non-standard biological specimens.

Before requesting such a test with non-conventional samples, such as those mentioned below, please consult first with our laboratories and the cost depends on the type of samples.

Such non-standard samples, other than peripheral blood or a buccal smear, may be:

  • blood stain (from cotton, gauze, etc.)
  • hair roots/ hair follicle (not hair shaft)
  • skin biopsy, tissue, etc.,
  • cigarette butt
  • toothbrush, dental floss
  • razors
  • bones
