Epstein-Barr virus (EBV)

Infections by the EBV virus (HHV-4), which belongs to the herpes family of viruses, are relatively common, since >95% of the population has been infected by the virus at least once in their lifetime. Symptoms are usually mild or may lead to infectious mononucleosis which may be treated appropriately.

A special polymerase chain reaction (PCR) is applied, detecting the presence of viral DNA.
