Herpes simplex virus (HSV1+2)

This type of virus may cause defects of the central nervous system, encephalitis, as well as lesions of the genitalia (usually caused by HSV 2). Nowadays, differential detection of HSV 1 and 2 is a feasible option, through the molecular detection of viral DNA.

A special polymerase chain reaction (PCR) is applied, detecting both types of the virus.
