REPRODUCTIVE GENETICS

  • Comprehensive clinical genetic evaluation, leading to the application of the appropriate testing strategy
  • Analysis of chromosomal abnormalities utilizing high resolution techniques
  • Specially designed genetic testing for cystic fibrosis mutations
  • Multi-parametric sperm analysis by flow cytometry

InterGenetics has developed a variety of genetic tests and has applied significant research in the field of infertility and pregnancy loss, having acquired an admittedly large experience in the effective treatment of female and male infertility.

Particular emphasis is placed on thorough clinical genetic evaluation of the patient’s history, leading to the application of the appropriate testing strategy, as for example: in-depth analysis of chromosomal abnormalities using high resolution techniques, specially designed genetic testing for cystic fibrosis mutations and comprehensive sperm analysis by flow cytometry.

We also provide the possibility of combining genetic testing with all the necessary biochemical, hormonal and microbiology tests necessary for the overall investigation of infertility.

Finally, we also work hard to introduce new innovative genomic tests, which will allow comprehensive genetic testing for uncovering genetic abnormalities leading to unexplained infertility.

General information

Infertility is today one of the most serious and frequent medical and social problems. The statistics speak for themselves:

  • in 6 couples experience reproductive problems
  • 1 in 3 women over 35 are infertile, and
  • 1 in 25 men have sperm-related problems

In ~80% of cases the problem is due to only one of the two partners (shared equally), in ~10% of cases both partners are infertile, while in the remaining ~10% of cases the problem is of unknown etiology. What matters is that in 2/3 of the cases where the problem has been diagnosed, there is a solution and the couples succeed in having a child.

The causes of infertility need to be investigated thoroughly through internationally recommended genetic tests. Without this testing there may be multiple IVF failures or the birth of an affected child

Exploring the causes of infertility in humans is complex and is the object of many medical disciplines, such as Obstetrics and Gynecology, Andrology, Genetics, etc, depending on the indications.

Infertility is about both male and female reproductive problems, intrauterine growth problems of the fetus, pregnancy loss and preimplantation genetic diagnosis.

In close cooperation with the clinical geneticists of InterGenetics, genetic testing in couples with various reproductive problems (miscarriages, sperm problems, repeated IVF failures, etc.) is designed according to the indications.
